After School

PS 41’s popular after school chess program has two sessions per school year (Fall and Spring). The program is open to all levels of players. All classes will be held in person at PS 41.

Grades PreK-1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:45-4:30pm

Chess teachers Jeremy Scheinbach and Roman Krant will divide the time evenly between instruction and supervised game play. Instruction will include piece movement, pawn promotion, castling, basic opening strategies, basic checkmate patterns, master games analysis, and basic tactics (pins, forks, discoveries). Students of all levels of play are welcome. Students can register for either day or both.

Grades 2-5 on Wednesdays 2:45-4:30pm

Chess teachers Jeremy Scheinbach and Roman Krant will divide the time evenly between instruction and supervised game play. Instruction will include master game analysis, basic and advanced tactics (pins, forks, discoveries, deflections), and endgame play. Students of all levels of play are welcome.

Grades 2-5 Advanced Chess on Wednesdays 2:45-4:30pm

This class is designed for experienced tournament players with US Chess ratings 800+  Permission is required to register for this class.

Capacity will be limited. Availability will be on a first come first serve basis. Please fill out the registration form at the top of this page. You will receive a confirmation email within two days of registering.

After school chess registration takes place in September and December. Late registrants are welcome based on availability and will be a charged a prorated fee.
